About
Mjipjewey Ta’n Wejiaq Apaqtuk (Food from the Sea) is a collaborative project founded by Ethan Paul as part of the Ocean Wise Eco-Action Accelerator. This initiative gathers seafood recipes and stories from across Mi’kma’ki, with the goal of creating a Mi’kmaq Seafood Cookbook that celebrates culture, tradition, and sustainability.
Our values
Netukulimk
Netukulimk is the use of the natural bounty provided by the Creator for the self-support and well-being of the individual and the community. Netukulimk is achieving adequate standards of community nutrition and economic well-being without jeopardizing the integrity, diversity, or productivity of our environment. (Defined by Unama’ki Institute of Natural Resources.)

M’sit No’kmaq
(All Our Relations)
“All our relations” reflects the interconnectedness of all living things. Everything—animals, plants, humans, and water—has a spirit, and our relationships with them are reciprocal.
Samqwan na Mimajuaqnm
(Water Is Life)
Water is sacred; it is a life force that sustains all living beings. As our first medicine, water must be cherished and protected.
Mijipjewey na Pisun
(Food Is Medicine)
Food is a gift from the Creator. Animals give their lives so we may eat, providing the nutrients we need to sustain ourselves. We honour and give thanks for these gifts.
